The laughs are back in Lexx season four as the organic starship of the same name and its four-member crew orbit Earth for 24 zany episodes.
Seasons one and three of the science-fiction TV show were darker in tone and far less funny than seasons two and four, the final season. The adult humour is also back in full force again in season four – this show is not suitable for children.
Captain Stan, love slave/lizard Xev, assassin Kai and robot-head 790 get involved in a mess of adventures as they travel back and forth between an orbiting Lexx and Earth, visiting places including Transylvania, Japan, Washington, D.C., Texas and Newfoundland in the process.
The crew's Earthly adventures
The crew is far from their home, the Cluster in the Light Universe, a planet ruled by the evil Divine Order.
Stan, Xev, Kai and 790 escaped the Cluster on the Lexx, a huge organic starship that is also an extremely powerful weapon.
After extensive travel in the Light Universe in previous seasons, the crew is now in the Dark Universe, where Earth is located.
Trying to find food for a starving Lexx, the crew is forced to explore nearby planet Earth.
In the process, these are just some of the events that occur:
- Xev is accused of murder and thrown into jail.
- Stan and Xev become contestants on the reality show “Xevivor,” which takes a deadly turn when killer carrot robot probes invade the island.
- Stan believes he is the ruler of Newfoundland, and comes to claim his land.
- Kai meets Dracula and Van Helsing in his quest to find a powerful assassin like himself.
- Stan, Xev and Kai try their hand at suburban life, settling down in a house. Xev gets a job at a meat products company, but things end quite badly.
Meeting up with old characters that have new identities
On this Earth where the crew has its adventures, the U.S. president, Reginald J. Priest (Rolf Kanies) is a puppet leader.
Priest is controlled by Prince, the evil head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Prince is a character the Lexx crew encountered extensively in season three as the evil ruler of the planet Fire.
Priest’s wife is Bunny (Patricia Zentilli), a somewhat dim-witted but kind-hearted soul who often ends up helping the Lexx crew despite the best evil efforts of corrupt husband and Priest. Bunny was also seen in season three as a resident of the planet Water.
Interesting guest stars
Lexx season four features a couple of interesting guest stars.
Britt Ekland is a former wife of the late Peter Sellers and star of The Man with the Golden Gun, a 1974 James Bond series entry starring Roger Moore. She is seen in the Lexx episode Prime Ridge as the realtor that sells the crew its suburban home.
In the episode Walpurgis Night, respected British comic actor Lionel Jeffries plays a village priest. This episode of Lexx was Jeffries’s last acting role until his death in 2010 at the age of 83.
Lexx gets more serious again toward the very end of season four, as the fate of the powerful starship’s crew is presented. It is the end of the series’ run.
It was a fun and varied ride, beginning with the crew’s departure from the Cluster at the very beginning of season one.
